Fridley and Columbia Heights 3rd-graders received dictionaries from volunteers Tim Blank, who arranged and coordinated the effort, Gordy Backlund, Norma Jean Falink, Roy Goslin, Kim Hiel, Vern Hoium, Craig Malm, Amada Marquez Simula, Lois McCarron, John Niewald, and Bob Tholkes on September 26th and October 3rd. The Fridley-Columbia Heights Rotary Club has been involved in distributing complimentary dictionaries to third-grade students for over 15 years. “One of the six areas of focus for Rotary worldwide is to support education and literacy,” said Blank. “As Rotarians hand out dictionaries each year, it is rewarding to see the enthusiasm among the students and their educators. The dictionaries are a resource that students can carry forward with them for years to come.”
