PROGRAM
 
19 members, including 4 on Zoom, and guest Jim Cummings, STRIVE coordinator at Fridley High School, heard member Kristen Stuenkel deliver via Zoom a review of the activities in 2021 of the club’s Rotary Operation Pollination committee, authorized by the club board in April. Activities have included regular Zoom meetings, participation in the Columbia Heights Mayors’ Monarch Pledge event in August (described by member Amada Simula), which the club sponsored, and cooperation with the Blooming Heights program at Columbia Heights High School. Committee meetings will resume in January. Stuenkel also mentioned that a national Pollinator Week is scheduled for June 2022.
 
ANNOUNCEMENTS
 
No meeting will be held next week, Wednesday, November 24, due to the Thanksgiving holiday.
 
Rotary Youth Exchange: a member is needed to become Youth Exchange Officer. The board has voted to participate in the program, which expects to resume for the 2022-23 Rotary year. Recruitment of host families must be accomplished during the current school year. Contact Bob Tholkes 763-913-4453 if interested.
 
Steve Klaers reminded that our STRIVE students will visit area technical colleges on Friday, December 3. Contact Steve at 612-599-8103 if you can accompany the group.
 
Craig Malm announced that he is joining the board of Souther Anoka Community Assistance of Columbia Heights. The club contributes annually to SACA, and this year donated the proceeds of the Golf Classic fundraiser to the organization.
 
REMINDERS
 
A musical service celebrating the long life and career in music of Henry Smith, spouse of member Norma Jean Falink, is scheduled (COVID permitting) for Monday, November 22, at Colonial Church of Edina, at 2 p.m. The club board voted in October to provide a memorial, which, at Norma Jean’s suggestion will be a contribution to Greater Twin Cities Youth Symphonies, which Henry helped found. The club board meets next on Dec. 1 at 9:00 a.m. at Fridley City Hall. All members are welcome to attend.
 
Bellringing at Sam’s Club in Fridley for the Salvation Army will take place on Dec. 1, 8, and 15. Bellringing slots at present are filled, but members are welcome to add themselves to the service. Contact Gordon Backlund if interested at 763-571-0369.
