18 members and guest Jim Cummings, Fridley High School STRIVE coordinator, heard Dr. Dave Webb, former administrator for Fridley Public Schools, summarize his new book, Homerun Leadership, and explain his principles of leadership, phrased in analogies with baseball, and utilizing examples drawn from issues faced by school leaders.

Cummings reviewed upcoming STRIVE activities: a mentors’ meeting tomorrow, April 13; the visit to Hennepin Technical College, including its Professional Peace Officer Education Program, on April 19; and Fridley’s awards program on May 18. Social Committee Scott Lund provided the show-up time, 6:00 p.m., for the April 25 mystery social event (see REMINDERS).
The club board at its meeting today at Fridley Community Center approved three donations: $500.00 to White Bear Rotary to support its district grant for the benefit of “Touching Tiny Lives” in the African country of Lesotho; $500.00 to Springbrook Nature Center in support of its spring fundraiser; and $5000.00 through the Healthy Youth Foundation to Metro North Adult Basic Education to be used to aid 17-18 year olds pursuing General Education degrees.
President Kim Hiel presented a farewell gift to past president Kelli Bourgeois, who is departing for a new job in Bristol, Tennessee.
REMINDERS
The late distribution of club invoices for the Rotary quarter ending March 31 pushed the due date for member accounts to April 13, after the end of the quarter. Payments received by that date will be considered on time. Social Committee Scott Lund has supplied a date, Tuesday, April 25, for the free spring mystery evening outing. Details are leaking out...will require business casual dress and will meet in Maple Grove.
The annual district 5960 conference is scheduled for April 29, 2023, a joint conference with Districts 5580 (northern Minny and NoDak) and 5950 at Madden’s Golf Resort on Gull Lake in Brainerd. Registration is now open.
Craig Malm will be seeking volunteers this spring to help distribute 160 bikes collected by Allina Health to students at Stevenson Elementary in Fridley.
Additional mentors for Fridley STRIVE students are sought, and potential mentors next year at Columbia Heights High School are encouraged to attend the ongoing mentor meetings with Fridley STRIVE students. Contact Steve Klaers at 612-599-8103.
