23 members heard City of Columbia Heights Community Development Director Aaron Chirpich describe development projects under way in the city, most prominently the projected redevelopment of the southeast corner of 40th Avenue and Central Avenue, which entails a mixed-use, 5-story complex with luxury apartments, a café, and, notably, a new Columbia Heights City Hall. Work is expected to commence in Spring 2020.
 
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Don Archibeque announced that our bellringing for the Salvation Army has so far raised about $400.00. Bellringing concludes today, 4-8 p.m. at Sam's Club, 8150 University Avenue. More ringers welcome.
 
STRIVE’s next field trip, to Anoka Tech and Anoka Ramsey Community College is set for Friday, Jan. 31. Rotarians are welcome to accompany the students and their faculty advisors and mentors. Contact Steve Klaers at 612-599-8103 for details.
 
The board approved the purchase of a table for 10 at the Alexandra House Gala, to be held from 6 to 10 p.m. on March 28 at Leopold’s Mississippi Gardens, 9500 W River Rd, Minneapolis, MN 55444. The District 5960 Midterm and Social, a free event, will take place from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, January 11 at Anderson Center, Hamline University, 774 Snelling Ave. N, St. Paul.
