PROGRAM
9 members, including 2 on Zoom, and prospective member Mark Vargas of Columbia Heights attended the first lunchtime membership drive meeting at The Refuge Golf Club in Oak Grove and heard member Gordon Backlund tell of his term in the Minnesota State Legislature and describe the process by which bills are drafted and become law. Discussion was spirited, and after adjournment of the meeting was followed by a talk by members and prospective member Vargas about the benefits and missions of Rotary.
REMINDERS
Bob Olsen reminded that in addition to the Fun Run at Fridley 49er Days on June 16, the club will resume sponsorship of a Wine Tent at the event, on Friday, June 17, and Saturday, June 18. Volunteers are needed for both events, which are a significant portion of the club’s annual community outreach effort. Four sponsors (of six needed) have been found for the Fun Run.
There is no breakfast meeting at Shortstop Bar & Grill on June 29. The second lunch meeting at the Refuge Golf Club, 21250 Yellow Pine St NW, Oak Grove, MN, the site of the July Golf Classic fundraiser, will take place instead. Complementary lunches and golf will be provided for invited prospective members. Members are requested to help identify prospective members to invite, particularly owners of local businesses. President Don Archibeque circulated an email list on May 6. Members who choose to golf after the meeting can do so at a discounted rate of $45.00. The meeting will begin at 11:30. The meeting will be hybrid. Lunch meetings at The Refuge are also scheduled for July 27, and August 24.
Speaker on June 1: Andrew Rescorla of UrbanGreensMN Hydroponic Garden in Columbia Heights will describe the garden’s operation.
