PROGRAM
Captain Gary Nelson, USN (Ret) spoke of his experiences in the Navy. His assignments at sea included Division and Department Head tours in USS Chevalier (DD805), USS McKean (DD-784), and USS Tuscaloosa (LST-1187), as Commanding Office USS Hitchiti (ATF-103), Executive Officer USS Duncan (FFG-10) and as Commanding Officer USS Joseph Hewes (FF-1078). Assignments ashore include the Naval Postgraduate School, Navy Recruiting District San Francisco, and three tours at the Naval Sea Systems Command as Program Manager for Vertical Launch ASROC, Undersea Weapons and Targets,and Lightweight Torpedoes. He served for six years as the US Navy delegate to NATO for Under sea weapons.
ANNOUNCEMENTS Steve Klaers announced that Lois McCarron’s service will take place on Wednesday, September 14, at St Timothy’s Catholic Church, 707 89th Ave NE in Blaine. A greeting time is scheduled from 10-11 a.m. with the service and lunch following.
REMINDERS The F-CH Operation Pollination Committee plans to host a service event for our Rotary Club on Saturday, Sept 10 9-11 a.m. at
Blooming Sunshine Garden, Lomianki Park, Columbia Heights. The F-CH Rotary Club is providing up to $200 for pollinator plants and the service activity will be to place those plants into the designated area of the Blooming Sunshine Garden. There will also be time socializing amongst Rotarians. All are welcome!
The annual Charter Dinner is scheduled for Wednesday, November 2, at Banquets of Minnesota in Fridley, and will feature Rotary District 5960 Governor Dayna Quigley.
Speaker on September 14: Ken Johnson will speak about his experiences as Postmaster at the Minneapolis Post Office.
