PROGRAM

16 members, including 7 on Zoom, heard Gary Lundgren, Director of the Zuhrah Shrine Band, speak on his experiences with circus life. It started when he was 10 years old and living in Iowa, where he met Karl King. He played in King's band and was then exposed to what the circus was all about, including the 65-car train coming to town. The elephants helped raise the large circus tent along with all the help. Over the years Gary's experience grew including the Zuhrah Shrine Circus in Minneapolis, where he was responsible for the circus band. He described how the band adjusts its playing to match the horses and other acts. It was a very interesting lifetime experience- Gordon Backlund.
