20 members, and guests Jason Kuhlman, Principal, Valley View Elementary School, Columbia Heights, and Mark Foster, Fleet Maintenance Supervisor for the City of Fridley, heard Jason Zienty, Community Outreach Officer for the Northern Star Council (Isanti and Anoka Counties) of Scouts, talk about Scouts, which fields 400 volunteers and serves 1000 youths in Northern Star's service area. He stressed the importance of involvement, both for youths and parents' involvement with their children.
 
President Brian Weierke thanked Foster for the fine work he does for the City of Fridley.
 
Kuhlman thanked the club for distributing dictionaries to he third-graders of his school.
 
Secretary Bob Tholkes announced that $654 emptied from the fine jar last week would be forwarded to the Polio Plus found of the Rotary Foundation.
 
Steve Klaers updated progress in the STRIVE program launch of mentoring this year; about 15 Fridley High School students have enrolled.
 
Scott Lund announced that about 30 members and guests have signed up for the club Charter Dinner.

Participation in Rotary Youth Exchange has been delayed until 2021-22.
 
The club has purchased a table for 8 at the Fridley Schools Foundation Gala on January 30 at Jax Café. Contact Bob Tholkes at rjtholkes@gmail.com if you wish to attend at the club’s table.
 
REMINDERS:
The club seeks a coordinator for its sponsorship of a wine tent and fun run at Fridley 49er Days, so that our participation can continue. Please contact President Brian Weierke if you can serve.
 
The club has purchased a table for 10 at the Columbia Heights Public School Foundation dinner, to be held tomorrow at 5:30 at Jax Café. Please contact Vern Hoium if you wish to attend at the club’s table. 3 seats remain.
 
Explore the power of stories and how we are “Connected by Our Rotary Stories” at this year’s District 5960 One Rotary Summit. To be held Saturday, October 26 at FamilyMeans Center in Stillwater, 1875 Northwestern Avenue, from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. This session is designed for new and experienced Rotarians to come together and share in the discussion about Rotary’s Public Image, Membership, and Foundation opportunities.
 
District 5960’s 19th Annual Foundation Celebration will be held on Saturday, November 02, at Delta Hotels by Marriott, 1330 Industrial Blvd NE in Minneapolis from 5:30 to 9:00 p.m. Tickets for the dinner are $65.
 
Scott Lund is coordinating attendance at the club Charter Dinner scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 6, at 6 p.m. at Sunset Grill, 8466 Hwy. 65, Spring Lake Park. Please contact Scott to add your name.
 
District 5960 Foundation Committee is sponsoring a breakfast meeting with former RI president Ian Riseley on Friday, November 15, at Delta Hotels by Marriott, 1330 Industrial Blvd NE in Minneapolis from 7:15 to 9:00 a.m. Tickets for the breakfast are $25.
 
HeightsNEXT community organization, which the club supports, will conduct “Taste of Heights” from 6 to 9 p.m. on Nov. 16 at Murzyn Hall, 530 Mill Street.
