22 members, including 10 Zoomers and Zooming guests/prospective members Halimo Ismail and Ed Higgins, heard club president Kelli Bourgeois lead a discussion of club goals for 2020-21. Gordon Backlund spoke on ways and means of obtaining suitable speakers for our breakfasts, and ideas were offered. Kristen Stuenkel and Amada Simula reported on the activities of the district inclusion and diversity group and Greg Schraufnagel noted the need for members to volunteer for work at the Golf Classic on August 31.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
The club has sent a sympathy card to District Governor Ed Marek, whose daughter Mandy Marek died August 9 after a two-year battle with breast cancer.
Brian Weierke announced that the Fridley Public Safety Department is currently seeking donations of K-12 school supplies (Notebooks, folders, pencils, pens, backpacks, crayons).
All donations can be dropped off at Department headquarters, 7071 University Ave NE.
Craig Malm announced that Allina will this year donate only to homeless shelters or food banks. A donation to SACA will be made on Rotary’s behalf, and also to Hope4Youth.
The club board meeting scheduled for August 5 has been postponed to today, still at Fridley City Hall at 9 a.m.
